Joseph "Red" J. Peluso, 95, of Rome, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018, at Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Health Care Facility. He was born in Rome, NY, on May 10, 1922, son of the late Alphonso and Maria Carmen Napalitano Peluso. Joe graduated from Rome Trade School. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre on the U.S.S. Trapper (Minesweeper). On July 12, 1947, he married Teresa M. Casillo, in St. John the Baptist Church, a sacred union of sixty-eight years. She passed away April 21, 2015. Joe retired from Griffiss Air Force Base in 1980, as a Machine Shop Foreman.
Joe was a proud veteran who loved his country and family. He would tell people when asked about his Naval Service in WWII, that he "would do it all over again." Joe enjoyed Yankee baseball games, Smith Post baseball games, RFA football games, big band music, and Frank Sinatra songs. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Past Commander and lifetime member of VFW Rome Post # 2246.
Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph R. and Sheri Peluso, Lee Center, three cherished grandsons; Joe (Molly) Peluso, Marc (Cyrilla) Peluso, and Bobby Peluso all of East Greenbush, NY, great grandsons; Santino Peluso and Rocco Peluso and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Teresa, three sisters; Rae Ricco, Nancy Osbelt and Lena Pettinelli, two brothers; Anthony Peluso and Louis Peluso.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at 10:15 a.m., from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., and at 11:00 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, by the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.
