Assunta 'Sue' Vitali Guaspari
Assunta V. Guaspari, formerly of Rome, NY, passed away Thursday, August, 15, 2013, at the Millcreek Manor Nursing Home in Erie, PA. She was 90.
Born in Rome, NY, on June 6, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie "Nellie" Camerino Vitali. She graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1942. On July 25, 1946, she married Guy A. Guaspari in St. John the Baptist Church in Rome, NY. He died on December 16, 1974.
For many years, Sue worked at the former Rome Developmental Center. She took great pride in her work, and was recognized for her decades of exemplary service to the Center's clients, staff, and visitors.
Sue will be remembered as a warm, caring person who was deeply devoted not only to her husband and children, but to other members of her closely-knit family who always felt loved and welcomed in Sue's home. She was widely known for her culinary and baking skills, especially for the delicious Italian foods she prepared and the variety of recipes she created. Generous in spirit, willing to help family and friends in time of need, and passionate about life, Sue will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are her four children, Roberta Guaspari of Harlem, NY, Alfred Guaspari of Punta Gorda, FL, Douglas Guaspari of Erie, PA, and Lois Guaspari Ferrare of Miami, FL; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Eleanor Vitali Castor of Ocala, FL, and a brother, Joseph Stephen Vitali of Chapel Hill, NC. She was predeceased by a brother, Peter Anthony Vitali, and a sister, Mary Vitali Trotsky.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at St. John the Baptist Church, 200 E. Dominick St. in Rome, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Rome.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St. in Rome, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sue's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, c/o Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, 218 W. Court St., Rome, NY 13440.
