Obituary of Rose J. Deutschman

Rose J. Deutschman Rose J. Deutschman, 92, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Rome Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. She was born in Rome, NY, on April 22, 1922, daughter of the late Andrew and Maddelena Montana Espositio. Rose graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1939 and from Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in September, 1944. She earned the Murray Guggenheim Medal for Excellence in Practical and Theory of Nursing. On August 3, 1946, she married Casimir S. Deutschman, in St. John the Baptist Church, Rome. They shared a loving union of 67 years. Rose was employed part time in various fields of nursing including Pediatrics and Newborn Care, until her own children went to school. She worked at St Luke's Memorial Hospital operating room as a circulating nurse from 1968 through 1978, transferring to Central Supply as a supervisor until her retirement in 1982. Rose was very active in the A.O.R.N. (Association of Operating Room Nurses). She was publicity chairman developing a program that took first prize at the National A.O.R.N., level and was also Past President of the NYS A.O.R.N. Rose graduated from SUNY Utica-Rome Magna Cum Laude in May 1982 with a BS in education. After retirement she was employed as a substitute teacher at various local schools. She enjoyed quilting and won two blue ribbons at the NYS Fair. Rose enjoyed golfing and traveling with her husband. She is survived by her children, Madelyn (William Genovesi) Deutschman of North Carolina, Peter (Carol Connor) Deutschman of Virginia, Mary (John Foley) Deutschman of Rome, NY. Two grandchildren of Rome, Adam (Jamie) Keller and Kaitlyn Keller and three cherished great grandchildren, Xavier Connors, Darcie Coston and Lila Coston. She was predeceased by her husband, Cas, in June of 2014 and her other beloved grandchild, Matthew Scott Genovesi in 2006. She is also predeceased by five brothers; Clement, Anthony, Andrew (1st) and Andrew Anthony and Nicholas Esposito and five sisters; Katherine Fazio-Fiorini, Angeline Belcamino, Mary Carmella Gennero, Baby Antoinette and Josephine Hluska. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, at 12:30 p.m., from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
