Herman Cesena Herman Cesena, 73, of Rome, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014 at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center, Syracuse. He was born in San Francisco, CA, on March 22, 1941, son of the late Joseph and Guadalupe Arevalo Cesena. Herman was raised and educated in San Francisco. He moved to Rome in 1990 and on July 4, 1992, he married Catherine M. DiBella in Transfiguration of Our Lord Church, Rome. Herman was a caring and generous man whose greatest joy was his family. He had a great culinary talent and was always happiest in the kitchen. For many years Herman had a career as a machinist in the San Francisco Bay Area. He began his second career reinventing himself by pursuing his Associates Degree at Mohawk Valley Community College ultimately becoming a chef for Sodexo food services at MVCC, Utica, a position from which he retired. Herman was a member of Transfiguration of Our Lord Church. Surviving are his wife, Catherine and son Joseph of Rome and Herman's children and their spouses; Brigitte and Paul Estey, Chris and Debra Cesena, Gina and Michael Glazer, Dennis and Linnette Cesena, grandchildren; Ashton and Allyn Nielson, Jennie and Kyle Cesena, Cole and Gianna Glazer and Eddy Cesena. Also surviving are brothers and sisters Theresa Romero, Henry Cesena, Sr., Marie Hernandez, Yolanda Stathes, Tony Cesena and Norma Benitez and several nieces and nephews all of the San Francisco Bay Area. He was predeceased by four brothers, Robert, Richard, Joseph Jr. and Carlos and a sister Connie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately at Transfiguration of Our Lord Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. There are no calling hours.
