Salvatore "Sam" P. DeMario Salvatore "Sam" P. DeMario, 74, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at his home with his family and friends by his side. He was born in Rome, NY, on March 25, 1940 a son of the late John and Josephine Ragonese DeMario. Sam graduated from Rome Free Academy. He served proudly with the U.S. Navy. On October 7, 1961, he married the love of his life Marjorie V. Brooks in Jacksonville, FL. She passed away on June 14, 2002. For many years, Sam and his parents owned and operated Zimbal's News in Rome, NY. He retired from the Oneida County Sherriff's Department as a Court Attendant. Sam was also formerly employed at the New York State School for the Deaf and Fraternal Composite. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, former member of Rome Moose Lodge and Sylvan Beach American Legion. Surviving is a loving daughter, Theresa "Terri" L. DeMario, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Phyllis and Anthony "Tokes" Ciccotti and Lucille Froio all of Rome. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Hurst, GA, April Dains, AZ and several dearly loved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie, his parents John and Josephine, a brother-in-law, Bernard Froio, Sr. and two sisters-in-law, Joan Crossett and Julie Megraugh. Sam's daughter would like to thank family, many dear friends, caregivers and medical care providers for their support and love throughout Sam's life and during his illness. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 10:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St. and at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial Contributions in Sam's name may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY, 13414 or American Cancer Society, 100 Lomond Ct., Utica, NY, 13502.
