Kenneth LeRoy George Kenneth LeRoy George, 87, of Rome, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford. He was born in Rome, NY, on June 3, 1927, a son of the late Albert and Mary Kler George. Ken attended Rome Schools and in 1948 graduated from Carpentry School at Utica Free Academy. On July 26, 1946 he married Betty Ann James in St. Mary's Church, West Leyden, NY. They resided in New Hartford, NY, where they raised their family. Ken proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 as a gunner on merchant ships that carried fuel and ammunition. After his military service, Kenneth became a self- employed general contractor, under the name of Miracle Construction. After teaching the trade to his son, David, they formed Kenneth George and Son Construction, retiring in 1988. Surviving besides his wife, Betty, of 69 years, are his son, David (Theresa) George, Clinton, two daughters, Paula (John) Attwell, Phelps, NY, and Diane (Mark) Mather, Syracuse, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his two sons Kenneth Albert George who passed away in 1956 and John Paul George who passed away in 1995 and brothers and sisters. Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 400 N. George St. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
