Garrie G. Amidon Garrie G. Amidon, 63, of Rome passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015 after a courageous battle against cancer at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rome, NY on June 26, 1952 a son of the late Gordon H. and Beverly J. Hofferd Amidon. Garrie spent a large part of his younger years involved with the Utica-Rome Speedway and ESTA Drag Strip, where he shared his love for speed and drag racing. As his interest grew some of his happiest times came through his adventures from the water to the woods. Garrie simply loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener and became a passionate bird enthusiast. Garrie is survived by his sons; Kevin Amidon, Ohio, Anthony Amidon Sr., Rome, brothers and sisters-in-law; Harley Amidon, N. Brookfield, Robert and Kathleen Amidon, NC, David Amidon, Rome, Joel Amidon and Barb Owens, Rome, sisters and brothers-in-law; Martha Smith, MO, Sharron and Albert Adolfi, FL, Lisa and Roger Breshears, MO, his grandson, Anthony David Amidon II, who was his grandpa's pride and joy. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews along with Paul and Christie Burdick, who were a special part of Garrie's life. Garrie's journey was fought with the love and support of his family and the amazing staff at the Bassett Healthcare Center in Herkimer, NY. Garrie's family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love, support and compassion he received from Dr. Methuku, Chris, Michelle and the entire Bassett Oncology Staff.
