Elizabeth (Betty) L. LaRose Spoon Betty was born into this world as the 3rd child of 9 on June 21, 1923 in Ogdensburg, NY. She was the daughter of Mary and Nelson LaRose. Betty (92) passed away February 17th 2016 at Bethany Gardens with her loving family at her side. During WWII, she worked at Griffiss AFB as a welder. She had the distinction of being one of the first female welder's. There she met her husband Larry. They were married on November 30, 1943. Together they settled in Rome, NY and raised their 6 children. Betty was an avid painter and crafter. She was president of the Rome Art Ass'n from 1980-1982 and well known for her Fabrege' eggs, paintings and teaching many different crafts. She is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law; Cheryl & Thomas Kegley, Rome, Mary Ann & Christopher Irvine, Rome and 1 son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Laurie Spoon, Holland Patent and 3 daughters-in-law; Nancy Spoon, TN, Seda Spoon, Rome, and Sandra Spoon, Rome, 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great granddaughters. She is also survived by 4 sisters: Ola King, Flo (Jack) Tosh, Jane (Alan) Rishe and Mary Ellen (William) Seymour, 1 step brother James Rishe, 2 step sisters Marie Craven and Elaine Craig and 2 sisters-in-law; Lorraine and Eleanor LaRose. She was predeceased by her husband Larry (2007) and 3 sons William (2002), David (2011) and Paul (1992) and 3 brothers Henry, Francis & Richard and a sister Isabelle Andrews. The family would like to thank the 5th floor Nurses and Aides of Bethany Gardens for the support and care given to our Mom for her many years of residency. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 10:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St. and at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m., for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
