Kathleen M. (McLaughlin) Peters

1940 - 2025

Kathleen M. (McLaughlin) Peters, 84, of Rome, NY and formally of Ottumwa, IA, passed away August 31, 2025 at Rome Health following a brief illness.

She was born November 23, 1940 in Des Moines, IA, daughter of the late Clarence and Florence (McCusker) McLaughlin.  Kathy graduated in 1959 from Ottumwa Heights Academy in Ottumwa.  On August 23, 1960 she married Thomas W. Peters, in Ottumwa, at St Patrick’s Catholic Church.  Kathy worked as a dental assistant for Frank Mazzaferro, DDS, in Rome, for many years.  In retirement, she enjoyed spending her time doing arts and crafts, sewing, gardening and reading.

Kathy is survived by her son Thomas M. Peters; daughter Patricia A. Jones: two grandchildren Byron and Olivia Jones; sisters, Gail Mclaughlin-Kinnard, Carol Ann (Dale) Carriere,  Janet (Tom) Barneby; brother David (Shirley) Mclaughlin; brother-in-law William (Teresa) Peters and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Thomas W. Peters; her loving daughter Peggy M. Peters; brothers, Jerry and Brian McLaughlin; son-in-law Marvin E. Jones and brother-in-law Roger Kinnard.

The Peters family would like to thank the staff of the Rome Health ICU for the care they gave to Kathy and the comfort they provided in her passing.
