Stachio A Falconio Obituary

Stachio Anthony (Tony) Falconio

1932 – 2025

Stachio Anthony (Tony) Falconio, age 93, of Rome, passed away on Monday October 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Rome, New York on July 11, 1932, the eldest son of the late Eustachio and Agnes (DiProspero) Falconio. He was the first born of the third generation of his maternal Italian immigrant family from San Felice Circeo, Lazio region. His paternal family was from Abruzzi.

Anthony graduated from Rome Free Academy. He worked at Nolan’s Machine Corp, Rome, Univac, Utica, until its relocation, and Rome Cable in the Rubber Cover Department. In the late 1980s, he studied Appliance Repair and Refrigeration at Mohawk Valley Community College.

Anthony was a clever man always able to think outside the box to find a unique solution to whatever came his way. He had a quiet, deep love for his family, especially his mother, brother, sister and nieces. For his nieces, Doughboy or Doughy as he was lovingly called, was the uncle of dinners out, countless trips to Friendly’s for ice cream, playing catch until dark and many bicycle adventures. Always the big brother, his nieces observed his care for his younger brother in his illness and watched him push himself to “hang around” for his sister during her illness even though he was facing his own medical issues. With his earthy duties complete, he found himself ready to return to the Home of the Father.

Anthony was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree, and participated in activities with the San Gregorio Society, and the Galliano and Toccolana Clubs. He was a frequent blood donor, and his nieces marveled at the number of gallon pins he earned. He was an inspiration for the next generation of donors.

He is survived by his two nieces, Karen A. Powell of New Jersey, Gail E. Powell of Nevada, Kay Hetherington who was like another niece to him; four great nieces, Sarah, Nicole, Richelle and Jennifer, one great nephew, Michael; great-great nieces and nephews, Giovanna, Angelo and Mikayla and eleven additional great-great nieces and nephews; dear family friend, Deborah Pinti of Rome; and many cousins. Also surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Rex Nelson of Florida.

Anthony is predeceased in death by his parents, middle brother, Ret. Major Vincent Falconio, and baby sister and brother-in-law, Nicoletta and Lawrence (Nickie and Larry) Powell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday October 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome, N.Y. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the Church, prior to the funeral Mass.
