John “Griff” P. Griffiths

1943 - 2025

John “Griff” P. Griffiths, 82, of Rome, entered into the hands of the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, with his family by his side following a brief illness. He was born on Feb. 26, 1943 to Wynn and Kathryn Graves Griffiths. John was married to Donna Bowen, in Aug of 1972, who passed away in July 2021. John was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a custodian at the church.  He also served in the U.S. Army as an E-5 Sergeant from 1965-1971.

 John was employed at Birnie Bus Co., as a driver.  He also managed Hi-Way Oil Gas Station, and worked at the Daily Sentinel Co.  John coached several children’s sports. He enjoyed dirt track racing and had a great love for all sports.  He especially enjoyed watching Stan Evans light up the Strough gym in orange during the show they put on.  John was always the loudest one in the stands, side lines or bowling alley.  He always showed great support for his family or favorite teams, sometimes participating himself or volunteering to keep score or wherever he was needed. He loved bringing home trophies, bowling with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

 John was a very giving man and would give you the shirt off his back if needed. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who had the privilege to know him.

Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Sherrie (Joseph) Martin, Kim (Eric) Seifert, Lynnelle (Ben) Watts and Jacqueline (Anthony) Falcone, a son, JR Griffiths, John had nine grandchildren, Jessica, Jason, Matthew, Patrick, Sasha, Alyssa, Nicole, Lucas and Allyson and fifteen great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are three brothers, Robert Griffiths, Ronald (Carol) Griffiths, of Rome, David (Sharon) Griffiths of Rochester and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at 4:00 p.m., at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome.  Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m., on Sunday October 26, 2025. Burial will be on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., at New Union Cemetery, 6910 Verona Mills Rd., Verona, NY.
