Stephen R. Viscelli, Jr.
1942 – 2026
Stephen R. Viscelli, Jr., 83, of Rome, passed away on Thursday February 5, 2026, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on October 24, 1942, son of the late Stephen and Mary Cianfrocco Viscelli. Stephen attended Rome schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy, Class of 1960. After high school, Stephen met the love of his life, Maria “Marie” Scaccia. They were married in St. John the Baptist Church in Rome on September 14, 1963, a blessed union of over 62 years. Together they raised a family of five beautiful children. Stephen was employed as a Security Officer for Revere Copper and Brass, here in Rome for just shy of 50 years. Known as the “Gatekeeper”, Stephen was the first face you would see when you arrived for work. Some of the employees even thought he may have been there longer than Paul Revere on the horse! Stephen and Maria were the co-owners of Marialena’s Café in Rome and Stephen was also the co-owner of V&V Billiards, with Angelo Vinci. Stephen was an avid NY Yankees fan, a member of the Toccolana Club, the Galliano Club, one of the founding members of the RFA Dugout Club, and a member of St. John the Baptist Church. He enjoyed frequent trips to Turning Stone Casino, as well as meeting up with his buddies for the ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) Club. What Stephen really loved most was spending time with his family and the grandkids.
Surviving are his wife, Maria, children, Kellie (Jason)Combs, Stephanie Viscelli (Dan Fenton), Stephen Viscelli (Melissa Wilde), Marialena “Lena” Viscelli, and Christina “Tee Tee” (David) Benn, grandchildren, Victoria and Joseph Facciolo, Isabella and Antonio Cicci, Armando, Stella, and Sonny Viscelli, and Michael and Matthew Benn, Remington and Ruger, a sister-in-law Patricia Scaccia, as well as his beloved niece, and nephews, cousins, and many cherished friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Mary, and his father and mother-in-law, Armando "Skip" and Victoria (Sciorilli) Scaccia.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the 3rd floor at Rome Health for their kindness and compassion shown to Stephen during his stay.
