Polly (Mirabelli) Sanzone

1937 - 2026

Palma “Polly” (Mirabelli) Sanzone, 89, of Rome, was called to be with the Lord on Holy Saturday April 4, 2026. She was born in Rome, NY on February 25, 1937 to the late Ralph and Christina (Rizzuto) Mirabelli. As a young girl, Polly peddled newspapers for the Rome Daily Sentinel and worked at Bucky and Georgette’s Grocery Store. At 17, she graduated from Rome Free Academy (Class of 1954) and worked at the New York Telephone Company on North Washington St. in Rome. Polly was an operator and worked her way up to Supervisor.  She transferred to the Utica, NY facility and retired from Verizon in 1991. 

Polly was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. On September 8th, 1956 she married Salvatore E. Sanzone. Surviving are two children, Samuel J. (Theresa Schillaci) Sanzone, Deborah (Alex) Cignarale, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a brother, Ralph (Clare) Mirabelli, a sister-in-law, Anna Rose Sanzone, as well as several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and several relatives throughout the US. She was pre-deceased by her son Ralph, Salvatore Sanzone, and her partner of 27 years, Angelo Malone, as well as a sister and brother-in-law, Camille (Orlando) Carnebianca, brother and sister-in-law, Patrick (Mary) Mirabelli, sister and brother-in-law, Viola (Joseph) Surace, and a nephew, Ronald Carnebianca.  

Polly was a very hard worker her entire life and lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Polly was a great cookie maker and loved being with family on holidays and special events. She also enjoyed spending winters in Florida.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday April 09, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick Street, Rome. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, April 08, 2026, from 4:00 pm. to 7:00 p.m. at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd. Rome, N.Y. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
