Gloria C. (Parkhurst) Harney

1940 – 2026

Gloria C. Harney, 85, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 15, 2026, at the Lutheran Care Home in Clinton, N.Y. She was born in Holland Patent, N.Y. on December 13, 1940, daughter of the late George and Ada (Yutzler) Parkhurst. On November 6, 1960, Gloria married Robert C. Harney of Knoxboro, N.Y. He passed away on March 14, 2023. She was employed as a Therapy Aide for CNY DDSO and retired after 30 years of service.

Gloria was a devoted Christian who enjoyed her gospel music. She had a passion for playing the clarinet and keyboard. Gloria had a good sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. Some of her favorite activities included bingo, cards, doing puzzles, and playing bowling and solitaire on her phone.

Gloria is survived by three daughters, Shirley (Robert) Suda, Jeanne (Don Durgan) Harney, Diane (Doug) Mason, a son, Charles Harney, and a daughter-in-law, Jacinda Harney. She also has 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, who she loved very much as they always put a smile on her face, as well as a beloved dog named Buddy. Also surviving is a brother, Bruce (Patty) Parkhurst, of Florida, and sisters-in-law, Esther Kitchen, Geogia Harney, and Liz Harney, a brother-in-law, Fay (Eileen) Harney, as well as several nieces and nephews. Gloria was predeceased by her parents, George and Ada, her husband, Robert, her loving son, Christopher Michael Harney, her brothers, Don Parkhurst, Roger Parkhurst, and Ross Parkhurst, as well as a sister who passed at nine months old, Jean Parkhurst.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Lutheran Care Staff, for all of their loving care and compassion. A special thank you to her sister-in-law, Georgia Harney, for the personal care that she gave.

A private graveside burial service will take place at Stockbridge Cemetery, Munnsville, N.Y. There are no calling hours.
