Obituary of Mary George Romano
Mary George Romano, 94, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at Colonial Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born in Rome, NY, on February 20, 1923, daughter of the late, Pangrazio and Margaret Pape George (Giorgi). Mary was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, Class of 1940. On April 11, 1942, she married Anthony (Tony) Romano, in St. John the Baptist Church. He passed away September 24, 2008. Mary retired from Rome Developmental Center. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Mary enjoyed cooking, baking, and entertaining at home. She enjoyed Bocce, outdoor activities and especially shopping.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law; Michael and Pearl Romano, Sylvan Beach, Anthony J. Romano, Rome, two daughters and a son-in-law; Linda and Paul Cataldo II, Myrtle Beach, SC, Trisha Romano, Rome, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Assunda "Sue" Ford, Utica, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, a daughter, Carmella Marie (Squeegy) Romano, hopefully, that sixty-four year hole in her heart has now been filled, a brother, Vincent George, and three sisters; Linda Lagorotteria, Kathryn "Katie" Cecilia and Rose Collier.
The family would like to thank the staff and several residents of Colonial Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their care and friendship.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Abe Esper, officiating. The family will receive friends at church from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., prior to the Funeral Mass. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rome Disabled American Veterans, 407 E. Dominick St., Rome, NY 13440 or Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413.
