Clara Capponi Clara Capponi, 93, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at Eastern Star Home Oriskany. She was born in Rome, NY on January 17, 1919, daughter of the late Vincent and Angela Cortese George. Clara attended Rome Schools. On June 24, 1939 she married Armand Capponi in St. John the Baptist Church. He passed away in 1961. Mrs. Capponi retired from Rome Developmental Center. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Surviving are a cherished granddaughter, Theresa Marie and her husband Joshua Nebush; two great-grandsons, Steven Scouten and Isaiah Nebush, all of Frankfort, NY. Also surviving are a brother, Gregory George; a sister, Catherine Amici, both of Rome; a daughter-in-law, Janet Twomey, Holland Patent; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Gerald Capponi; two brothers, Anthony George and Frank George; two sisters, Julia Ellinger and Mary DelPiano. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Eastern Star Home for their loving care to Clara. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating, where friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome, NY 13440 or Eastern Star Home Activities Fund, 8290 St. Route 69, Oriskany NY 13424.
