Eleanor 'Ellie' M. Filey Ellie Filey, 71, of Rome passed away at home Tuesday, April 30, 2013 with her loving family by her side after a long and courageous battle with leukemia and COPD. She was born June 18, 1941 in Lake Placid, NY, the daughter of John and Genevieve (Sears) Bradley. On October 4, 1996, Ellie was united in marriage to John E. Filey in Verona, NY. For many years Ellie was employed as a bookkeeper with Dave Hall Electric. Ellie also worked as a bookkeeper and curator for the Rome Historical Society until her retirement. Ellie was a loving and caring person who always put others before herself. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cared deeply for her family. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her. Surviving besides her loving husband, John, are three daughters and sons-in-law, Charleen and Richard Cushman of Stittville, NY, Cheryl and Brian Pfendler of Rome, NY, and Nicole and Kevin Hart of New Market, MD; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Pearl Sanborn of Camden, NY; a stepson Patrick Filey and his wife, Joslyn, of Buffalo, NY; and a stepdaughter Christine Florek and her husband, Kelley, of Colorado Springs, CO; 16 grandchildren, Dustin,Audrey, Alex, Ryan, Tiffany, Daniel, Cameron, Casey, Ryne, Ashley,Dillon, Brianna, Ethan, Lilly, Bailey, and Nina; and three greatgrandchildren, Alexis, Keegan, and Derrick. She also leaves behinda very special canine companion, Peppie the Poodle. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, George and Michelle Bradley of Marcellus, NY; and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Starr and John Mikan of Pittsburgh, PA, Linda Renfro of Lake Placid, NY, and Terrie Latimer of Massena, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Tony Bradley, and her sister Cindy Smith. Her family would like to especially thank the caring staff of 2 North of Rome Hospital for their many years of excellent care, as well as Drs. Potluri and Butala, and her wonderful caregivers. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St. and at St. Peter's Church at 10:30 a.m., where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Philip Hearn. Burial will be in Verona Cemetery, Verona.
