Frank "Popi" S. Riolo Frank "Popi" S. Riolo, 85, of Rome passed away with his devoted children and grandchildren by his side on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 17, 1924 in Rome, NY son of the late Joseph and Concetta Magno Riolo. Frank attended Rome schools. He served with the US Navy during World War II. On May 5, 1945 he married Josephine M. LaPorte in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Utica. She passed away December 24, 2004. Mr. Riolo was a retiree of Bendix Corp., Utica. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Toccolana Club, and Rome American Legion. Frank was an avid fisherman, enjoyed woodworking, and was very handy. Frank was devoted to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was always there for his family and lived for his family. Frank enjoyed his Saturdays with his brothers and sisters having lunch together. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Carol Riolo; two daughters, Pam DeLorme and Francine Riolo and friend Scott, all of Rome; seven beloved grandchildren, Deana and her husband John Navelli, Christie and David Alberico, Ginger DeLorme and fiance Brian Cole, Brandy and her husband Jeff Miller, Robert DeLorme, Ambur Kowalski and Walt Allen, Ben and his wife Jill Kowalski; eleven beloved great grandchildren, Danielle, Marisa, Frankie, Tyler, Austin, Joshua, Savannah, Madisyn, Dylan, Kaitlin, Justin, and Sunny Sanford, a special friend of the family. Also surviving are four brothers, John Riolo, Orlando Riolo, Larry Riolo all of Rome, and Fred Riolo, Las Vegas, NV; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Nettie Farro, Mary and Vito Sparace, all of Rome, Ann and John Pecione, Syracuse, Angie Guglielmo, Rome, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Josephine Squadrito, and Isabell Zarelli; and five brothers, Vinny, Nick, Joe, Armando, and William Riolo. Military funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home Inc. 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
