Obituary of Jill J. Boncella

Jill J. Boncella, 54, of Rome, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022 at home. She was born in Rome, NY, on December 6, 1967, daughter of the late Ralph F. and Jeanette Palinski Smaldon. Jill was a graduate of Rome Catholic High School Class of 1986. She graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Utica College. She also attended Empire State College. Jill was a Support Services Supervisor at Lab Corp. at Rome Hospital. Jill was a member of Transfiguration Church. She enjoyed being outdoors camping and kayaking. Jill also loved spending time with her grandson Cole, who truly was the light of her life. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Lauren (Mark) Calandra, of Rome, a grandson; Cole Ralph Calandra, Rome, two brothers and sisters-in-law; Mark (Lori) Smaldon, Lee Center, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Smaldon, Rome, a sister and brother-in-law; Beth (Kyle) Mumpton, Liverpool, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jill was predeceased by her parents, Ralph F. and Jeanette Smaldon. She was also predeceased by her canine companions Reese and Ruby. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., at Transfiguration Church, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Burial will be St. Mary's cemetery.
