Obituary of Rosina Sestito

Rosina M. Sestito, 98, of Rome, passed away peacefully at Rome Health Residential Health Care, on Monday, December 26, 2022. She was born in Rome, NY, on November 5, 1924, daughter of the late Carlo and Concetta Voci Sestito. Rosina was educated in Rome schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy.  She then went on to work for RADC at the Griffiss Air Force Base, retiring after 38 years of service. Rosina was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. She also was an active member in: Swingers Golf League, Domenico’s Golf League, Griffiss Women’s Golf League and Bowling League, GAL’S and South Rome Seniors Center for many years.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Lois Sestito, and several nieces and nephews including:, Dr. Ralph (Connie) Tardugno,  Carla (David) Gualtieri, Mary (Joe) Trino, Dr. Carl (Kris) Sestito, Lorriane (Ken) Jones, Cynthia (Lou) DiRienzo, and Sharon Sestito, a nephew, David Salce, and great-nieces and great-nephews including, Sean (Cheri) Salce, and several cousins. She was predeceased by brothers; Samuel and Frank Sestito, sisters; Catherine J. Tardugno, and Carmella A. Salce, nieces, Camille Salce, and Cathy Sestito, a nephew, Michael Tardugno, and two brothers-in-law, Michael Tardugno, and Sylvester Salce.

Rosina had great style, from her impeccable wardrobe, to her red painted nails. She was a woman ahead of her time. She graduated high school a year early in order to start her career at Griffiss Air Force Base. Rosina began her career as a clerk and worked her way up to retire at the position of Administrative Officer. Rosina traveled the world with her friends, visiting Europe, Greece, Hawaii, and even took a cross-country trip in her brand new pink Chevy. Most importantly, Rosina was a selfless human being, who gave her all to her family and friends. She treated everyone as family and was a second mother to her nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff of 3 East at Rome Health for taking such excellent care of Rosina.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday December 31, 2022 at 11:00a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church from 10:30am – 11:00am prior to the Mass. Spring Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made in Rosina’s name to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis, TN, 38105-9959.
