Obituary of Emma M Lawrence

Emma M. Lawrence, 97, of Rome, passed away peacefully at Bethany Gardens on Friday January 13, 2023. She was born in Rome, NY, on March 21, 1925, the daughter of the late Louis and Lula Newman Coluccio. Emma attended Rome schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy. On September 24, 1944, Emma was united in marriage to the late Neilan J. Lawrence, Sr. He passed away on April 26, 1964. Emma was a Licensed Practical Nurse, and worked for the Oneida County Hospital, and the Rome Nursing Home until her retirement. Emma was a kind, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She traveled the world and enjoyed visiting countries such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and Holland. Emma also loved the many camping trips, and time spent in the Adirondacks with her son, Neilan, and family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church in Rome, and she was very active in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts. She was also a member of the Civil Air Defense.

Surviving are twin sons, Neilan Jr, (Linda) Lawrence, and Louis W. Lawrence, both of Rome, a daughter, Linda (Jack) Zeock of Mocksville, NC, a brother, Ed (Betty) Coluccio of Rome, and one sister, Thelma Barber of Rome, grandchildren, Neilan III (Hayley) Lawrence, Tiffany J. Lawrence, Vianna M. Lawrence, all of Rome, Harry Zeock, Sam Zeock, and Katie Zeock, all of North Carolina, as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Emma was pre-deceased by her parents, Louis and Lula Coluccio, her husband, Neilan Lawrence Sr., her sister, Delores Wakulik, and three brothers, Bob Coluccio, Herb Coluccio, and Bruce Coluccio.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bethany Gardens, for their exceptional care of Emma in her last year of life.

A Memorial Service was celebrated on Tuesday January 17, 2023, at the First Baptist Church, in Rome. There were no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd. Rome, N.Y.

A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 301 West Embargo Street in Rome, at 11:00am on Tuesday January 17, 2023.
