Robert Charles (Junior) Harney, 84, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, with his loving children by his side. He was born in Knoxboro, NY on March 27, 1938, son of the late Charles and Emogene (Gaut) Harney. On November 06, 1960, Robert married Gloria Parkhurst of Holland Patent, NY. Robert was a self-employed Painter for many years, until his retirement.

Robert was an avid sports fan, especially the New York Yankees and Syracuse Orange Basketball and Football teams. He also enjoyed watching NFL football.

Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria, his children, Shirley (Robert) Suda, Christopher “Mike” (Cindy) Harney, Jeanne Harney, and Donald Durgan, all of Rome, Diane (Doug) Mason, of Vernon Center, and Charles Harney, of Rome. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, all whom he cherished, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He also had a beloved dog, Buddy, his constant companion. Also surviving is a sister, Esther Kitchen, of Vernon Center, and a brother, Fay Harney, of Knoxboro. Robert was predeceased by three sisters, Bessy Babcock, Alida Odit, and Charlene Bugbee, and five brothers, Halsey, Eugene, Jack, Jim, and LeRoy.

The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., for all their help, love, compassion, and support given to Robert and the family.

A Graveside Service with burial will take place in the spring, at Stockbridge Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
