George B. Sgroi, 88, of Rome, NY, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Rome Health.  He was born in Rome, NY, on January 14, 1935, son of the late George J. and Lenore Violante Sgroi.  George lived his entire life in Rome and was a graduate of Rome Free Academy.  He served in the Army National Guard, a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of St. Paul’s Church with his wife, Dolores. George retired from Rome Strip Steel after forty-two years.

 

George enjoyed spending time with his family laughing and weekends out dancing with Dolores.  He loved riding his Harley Davidson with his son and friends he grew up with.  George was a charitable donor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 

 

George is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Dolores Sgroi, his children, George J. (Gail) Sgroi, Sabrina (Dr. Jeffrey) Katz, and Lenore Williams, three grandchildren he adored, Kyra Katz, Ethan Williams and Mikayla Katz. Also surviving is a brother, Robert Sgroi, Florida and nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by his parents, George J. and Lenore Sgroi, his brothers, Dr. Charles Sgroi, and David Sgroi.

 

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Pastor Robert Kelly of St. Paul’s Church.

 

In keeping with George’s wishes a private funeral service with immediate family was  held with George’s final resting place in Rome Cemetery.  There were no calling hours.

 

Arrangements are by the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome, NY.

Final Resting Place
