Obituary of Thomas W Peters

Thomas W. Peters, 82, of Rome, New York and formerly from Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday July 19, 2023, at home, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on February 2, 1941, in Ottumwa, Iowa, son of the late William and Margaret Wilson Peters. Tom graduated in 1959 from Walsh High School in Ottumwa, Iowa. On August 23, 1960, he married Kathleen M. McLaughlin in Ottumwa, Iowa, at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. Tom served his country proudly in the United States Air Force for 22 years, and also as a civilian in Rome Lab at Griffiss AFB for several more years after his retirement from active duty service.

Tom enjoyed playing golf at the Rome Country Club and watching the PGA Tour. He also enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball teams, as well as the New York Mets and Smith Post baseball.

Tom is survived by his wife, Kathy, of 62 years, a son, Thomas M. Peters, a daughter, Patricia A. (Marvin) Jones, two grandchildren, Byron and Olivia Jones, a brother, William (Teresa) Peters, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and his loving daughter, Peggy Peters.
