Rebecca “Becky” F. Mellay

Rebecca “Becky” F. Mellay, 77, of Rome, NY passed away on July 24, 2023. She was born on July 24, 1946, Moundsville, WV to the late Russel and Ruth Ann (McSwain) Faulkiner. She attended West Virginia University and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Becky worked as a Home Economics Teacher at Strough Junior High in the Rome City School District for most of her 33 year career, retiring in 2001. She was a Retirement Representative for the Rome Teachers Association, volunteered with the RTA Children’s Fund, and an active member of Palm Twig. Becky was an avid Syracuse University sports fan but her favorite role during retirement was that of “Bum Bum” to her five grandchildren.

Surviving are her two daughters and their spouses, Erin (Shaun) Gannon and Leslie (Brad) Lewthwaite and grandchildren, Collin and Jocelyn Gannon and Evan, Ashton, and Hudson Lewthwaite, all of Rome, NY. Becky is also survived by her sisters Kathleen (Michael) Pealer of Sewickley, PA., and Paula (Donald) Dobey of Palm Bay, FL.

Relatives and friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome on Friday July 28, 2023, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., with a Funeral Service to follow at 3 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
