Salvatore V. Grieco, 104, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday October 31, 2023, at Rome health. He was born on March 01, 1919, son of the late Leonardo and Catherine Securra Grieco. Salvatore graduated from Rome Free Academy. On August 19, 1939, He married Hazel Jones in St. John the Baptist Church, a blessed union of nearly 70 years until her passing in 2008. Salvatore was a Manager of Loblaws Supermarket in Rome for 28 years, retiring in 1975. He then worked in the money room at Vernon Downs for 22 years. Salvatore was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.


Surviving are his children, Barbara Grieco, Lorraine Holzberger, Diane Grieco, and Thomas Grieco, a sister, D. Marie Grieco, 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, Maryann Grieco, Bette Michaniw, and Helen Verro. He also leaves behind his many friends at the Rome Mall Apartments. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Conio, John, and Andrew Grieco, two sisters, Angela (Dan) Tanzi, and Rosemarie (Pat) Giardino, as well as a son-in-law, Thomas Holzberger.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 04, 2023 at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Relatives and friends may call on Friday November 03, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd. Rome. Private burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
