1941 - 2024

Johanne Capponi, 82, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday August 27, 2024, at Oneida Healthcare in Oneida, N.Y.  She was born in Rome, NY, on November 18, 1941, daughter of the late Ralph and Irene Vescio Maio. Johanne graduated from Rome Free Academy.  She was married to the late Janerino “Jerry” Capponi, who passed away on March 21, 2023.  Johanne was a retired employee of Rome General Lumber Company where she worked in accounts receivable and had also worked at Transfiguration Church.  Johanne was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters; Michelle (Christopher) Howard, Deansboro, NY, and Melissa Carpenter, Rome, three grandchildren; Dustin Howard (Marissa Cimino), Kayla Carpenter (Jordan Dygert) and Kyrah Carpenter.  Also surviving is a brother, and a sister, a brother-in-law, John Capponi, Rome, a sister-in-law, Sandra Maio, several nieces and nephews, and two special friends, Char Exey, and Toni Pugh. She was predeceased by her husband, Jerry, a sister, Katherine Schebel, a brother, Ralph Maio, a brother-in-law, Joseph Schebel. 

Services are private. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made in Johanne’s name to Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Rd, New Hartford, N.Y. 13413-9954 or Alzheimer’s Association Central New York Chapter, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, N.Y. 13204-1305.
