Obituary of Dolores A Sgroi
Dolores A. (Cannan) Sgroi
1942 – 2024
Dolores A. Sgroi, 82, of Rome, passed away on Sunday October 27, 2024, at The Isaiah House Hospice facility in Rochester, N.Y., surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Utica, N.Y. on January 19, 1942, daughter of the late Gladys Bramhall and Floyd Cannan. Dolores graduated from Kimball School District. On March 09, 1963, she was united in marriage to George B. Sgroi. He passed away on March 28, 2023. Dolores and her late husband George were members of St. Paul’s Church in Rome.
Dolores was a Twig volunteer at Rome Hospital for many years. She was also a CNA and worked at multiple Nursing Homes in Rome and loved to volunteer at her children’s schools when they were younger. Dolores’s biggest passion was dancing with her husband George, whom she had been married to for 60 years. She was never without a smile, laughed every day, and had a kind word for everyone. Her greatest joy was her three grandchildren and her many friends, as well as her grand-dog, Milo.
Dolores is survived by her three loving children, George (Gail) Sgroi, Sabrina (Dr. Jeff Katz), and Lenore Williams, three grandchildren she adored; Kyra and Mikayla Katz, and Ethan Williams. Also surviving are her two sisters; Gail Beyer and Fran Kosalski, a brother-in-law, Robert Sgroi, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Floyd and Gladys, her loving husband George, and her sister Phyllis.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Kristin Kildea, Director of The Isaiah House, and Heather Menchel, her Hospice Nurse.
Dolores basked in the love and left in her time. She was blessed to have so many people who made sure she would die in peace and with dignity.
Memorial contributions in Dolores’s name can be made to The Isaiah House, 1005 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y. 14607 or online at theisaiahhouse.org/donate-2/.
