Angelo P. Cataldo Angelo P. Cataldo, 91, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, March 26, 2010. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on February 1, 1919, son of the late Peter and Celia Troia Cataldo. Angelo was a graduate of Rome Free Academy Class of 1938. He proudly served his country in World War II as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. On June 8, 1946, he married Rita Steinmetz in St. Michael's Church, Brooklyn, N.Y. She passed away April 29, 1993. Mr. Cataldo was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. He was co-owner and president of Cataldo Brothers and Sons. Angelo was happiest at home and in California when surrounded by his family and friends. He was an avid gardener. Angelo loved to sit by the fireplace during winter and enjoyed watching hummingbirds in summer. Surviving are his children, three daughters and a son-in-law, Desiree DiGennaro, Freehold, N.J., Toni DiMeo, Utica, Christine and Michael Burth, Verona; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Peter and Sandra Cataldo, Rome, Philip and Shelley Cataldo, Castaic, Calif., Cathy Cataldo, Rome, wife of the late Michael Cataldo; 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, F. Paul Cataldo Sr., Rome, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rita, two sons, Thomas Gerard Cataldo, as an infant in 1964, and Michael A. Cataldo, in 2007, a sister, Frances Bush, in 2008, and faithful canine companion, Makita, in 2007. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St. and at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, N.Y. 13413.
