Obituary of Eleanor L. Guarascio

Eleanor L. Guarascio Eleanor L. Guarascio, 89, a resident of Betsy Ross Nursing Facility, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Rome Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. She was born in Rome, N.Y. on May 27, 1920, a daughter of the late Charles and Raffaela Ferrussi Pelano. Eleanor attended Rome schools. On January 8, 1955, she married Joseph L. Guarascio in Rome. He passed away October 2, 1982. Eleanor was a former employee of Revere Rome Manufacturing. Mrs. Guarascio was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen (Pelano) and James D. Smith, Rome; a son, Joseph F. Guarascio, Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren, Karie-Ann and her husband David Raynault, Florida, Jeffrey and his wife Leslie (McCutcheon) Smith, Deerfield, Jeremy Smith, California, Jennifer and her husband Brandon McCaferty, Georgia, Jacquelin and her husband Paul Schwartz, Florida; and four great grandchildren, Derek Charles Smith, Logan Paul Schwartz, Evan Joseph Schwartz and Nathaniel Quinn McCaferty. Also surviving are three sisters, Phyllis Galluzzo, Rose Pelano and Caroline Baptiste, all of Rome; two sisters-in-law, Josephine Pelano, Verona, Catherine Pelano, Rome; a former daughter-in-law, Lila McGee, Florida; and several nieces, including Carol Putruele, Utica, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary DiBrango, five brothers, Benjamin, Anthony, Patrick, Joseph and John Pelano, two brothers-in-law, George DiBrango and August Galluzzo, three sisters-in-law, Jane Pelano, Barbara Pelano and Susie Pelano, and a niece, Joann Johnson. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Rome Memorial Hospital Emergency Room and Comfort Care on the second floor and also to Ann, Patti, Shannon and Betsy Ross Nursing Facility for their care and compassion shown to Eleanor. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
