Obituary of Peter A. Merola

Peter A. Merola Peter A. Merola, 85, of Rome, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2008 at University Hospital, Syracuse. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on June 29, 1923, son of the late Pasquale and Josephine Camparetta Merola. On December 27, 1941, he married Theresa Pomilio in St. John the Baptist Church. Mr. Merola served with the U.S. Army 370 Infantry Division During World War II. He retired from Sanzone Distributing. Peter was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and former member of Shamrock Golf Club.Surviving besides his wife, Theresa, are a son and daughter-in-law, Pasquale and Geraldine Merola, Walnut Creek, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and Steven Munson, Clifton Park, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Kristen Wagner, Julie Merola, Peter Merola and Amy Munson; three sisters, Theresa DiStefano, Dorothy Bauer, both of Rome, Julia Ocuto, LaHabra, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Carmella Cianfrocco and Mary Mosca, and two brothers, Joseph A. Merola Sr. and William Bottini.Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery. There are no calling hours.Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
