John D. Destito John D. Destito, 85, of Rome, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on March 3, 1925, son of the late Saverio and Teresa Bartolotti Destito. John attended Rome schools. He served as a Tech. Sgt. with the U.S. Army during World War II. On September 11, 1948, he married Gilda Ciamponi in St. John the Baptist Church. Mr. Destito was employed with RADC at Griffiss Air Force Base, retiring after 35 years. He was also involved in the family business of King Pin Lanes for over 35 years. John was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, the Galliano Club, Toccolana Club and Dunmore Club, Dunmore, Pa. Surviving besides his wife Gilda, are two sons and a daughter-in-law, John L. and Barbara Destito, Verona, Richard J. Destito, Rome; seven grandchildren, John Destito, Carla Destito, Anthony Destito, Anthony Otto, Stephen Otto, Kristin Atwell and Beth Franklin; and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Gregory and Mildred Destito, Rome; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Joseph D. Destito. He was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Josephine Destito, a sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Sam Guaspari, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Piacentino and Antoinette Ciamponi; and a sister-in- law and brother-in-law, Carmella and Joe Farino. The family would like to express a special thank you to Drs. Cotronea and Tallandini and the staff of 3 East at Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility for their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7 p.m.
