Edward W. Gohringer Edward W. Gohringer, 80, of Rome, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Syracuse Veteran's Administration Hospital. He was born in New York Mills, N.Y. on January 1, 1930, son of the late Frank and Sarah Westcott Gohringer. Mr. Gohringer made his career in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Sgt. 1st Class. He received a Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Army Occupational Medal (Germany), Vietnam Service Medal, and Expert Badge Rifle. He was a member of the Henry P. Smith Post 24 American Legion. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters. The family would like to express a special thank you to the Syracuse Veterans Administration Hospital and the VA Rome Clinic, especially Darla Clapps, for their care and compassion shown to Ed. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., where relatives and friends are invited to attend. At his request, there are no calling hours. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Saratoga, N.Y.
