Leo A. Vaccaro
Leo A. Vaccaro, 87, of Canastota, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Frankfort, N.Y. on April 24, 1923, son of the late Joseph and Josephine Cannelli Vaccaro. Leo served with the U.S. Army during World War II, where he received the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. On February 16, 1952 he married Prudence Rose Manuele in St. John the Baptist Church, Rome. Mr. Vaccaro retired from Carrier Corp. in Syracuse. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Rome.
Surviving besides his wife Prudence "Rose," are a daughter and son-in- law, Deborah and Bruce Lytle, Canastota, and a son, Michael L. Vaccaro, all of Canastota; four grandchildren, Nicole Lytle, Julie and her husband Peter Trinca, Heather and her husband Stephen Sliker, Michael L. Vaccaro II. Also surviving are two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Brooks, Tennessee, Clara and Anthony Asterita, Alexandria, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Benjamin and Jean Vaccaro, Durhamville; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Anna Lucadamo, and a brother, Joseph Vaccaro.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.
