Charles R. Lombino, Jr., 67, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2008, at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rome, NY on May 14, 1941, son of the late Charles and Nancy Amoroso Lombino. Charles graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1959 and from Ithaca College in 1963. Upon graduation from Ithaca College, Charles was employed by the Oneida County Department of Social Services until his retirement in 1995. On June 4, 1983, Charles was united in marriage to Marilee Williams. Marilee passed away on February 26, 2001. Charles was a commissioned lay minister F.F.M, Diocese of Syracuse, and he did family, parish outreach and pastoral care for St. John the Baptist Church. Charles was also a Eucharist minister for St. John the Baptist Church. He was a certified long term ombudsman for the American Red Cross and was also a volunteer at Hope House. Charles was a religious education teacher and was a member of the parish council at St. Anne's Church in Whitesboro, N.Y. He was also a member of the Legion of Mary at St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro. Charles also was a member of the Rome and Utica Civic Bands and Rome Knights of Columbus, where he was a past Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree Assembly. He was a past President of the Rome Knights of the Mohawk Barbershop Chorus and past secretary of the Rome Jaycees. Mr. Lombino was a past President of the Columbus School PTA. Charles was also a member of the Toccolana Club, Galliano Club, Utica Mac Manncher Club, South Rome Senior Citizens Center and Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Center. Charles is survived by Frances Aiello, his fiancee, special and best friend, companion and partner of Rome; two daughters and a son-in- law, Nancy Lombino, Waterford, N.Y., Judy and James Sullivan, Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Tiffany Festa, Joshua Woodson and Tyler Woodson, all of Waterford, N.Y. Also surviving are a brother, Richard Lombino, Rome, and a niece, Jennifer Lombino, New Hartford, N.Y.; aunts, Dolly and husband, John Flavor and Angie Gotti, Rome; and several cousins. Charlie enjoyed his special times with Fran's daughters and sons-in-law and grandchildren, especially Kaitlyn, who was the apple of his eye. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., Rome, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery, Whitesboro, N.Y. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Masses be requested for Charles and the souls in Purgatory, or memorial contributions may be made to the Parish Visitors of St. John the Baptist Church. The family would like to express a special thank you to Rome Memorial Hospital, 2 North and East, and Dr. Cotronea and staff for their care and compassion shown to Charlie. May the soul of Charles and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace, Amen.
