Catherine M. Merola Catherine M. Merola, 94, formerly of W. Embargo St., Rome, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Siegenthaler Center, New Hartford. She was born in Rome, NY, on December 22, 1915, daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Lombardo Cremeno. On September 16, 1939 she married Dominick T. Merola in St. John the Baptist Church. He passed away January 10, 2009. Mrs. Merola was a former employee of General Cable Corp. as a first aid nurse. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and the Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Center. Catherine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed her family, home and friends. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Ronald Kapfer, Rome, and Elaine and James Genovese, Marcy; seven grandchildren, Karen Kapfer Miller, Rome, Kelly Ann Egresits, Marcy, Richard DeSalvo, Rome, Leigh Ann and her husband Keith Levatino, Whitesboro, Mark DeSalvo, Marcy, and James Genovese and Michael Genovese, both of Hoboken, NJ; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Adeline Matteo, Rome, several nieces and nephews including four special nieces, Virginia Merola, Utica, Monica Falitico, Rose Felice and Marion Falitico, all of Rome. She was predeceased by two brothers, Bruno Cremeno and James Cremeno, and four sisters, Raffale Serra, Mary Parisi, Frances Andrewski and an infant, Pasqualina Cremeno. The family would like to express a special thank you to all the staff at the Siegenthaler Center and Georgia for their kind and compassionate care shown to Catherine. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Church at 11 a.m. where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St. on Monday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Siegenthaler Center of Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settelment Road, New Hartford, NY 13413.
