Bambina M. Schillaci
Bambina "Bam" M. Schillaci, 86, of Rome, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at her home, with her family by her side.
Bambina was born in Introdacqua, Italy, on March 25, 1924, daughter of the late Joseph F. and Angelina DiPalo Volpe. Bam attended Rome Schools. On October 7, 1944, she married Joseph C. Schillaci, Sr., in St. John the Baptist Church, a loving union of 64 years. He passed away April 23, 2009. She was employed for 15 years as a developmental aide at the Rome DDSO. Bam was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and belonged to its Congregation of Mary.
Through the years, Bam and her husband enjoyed their special trips to Atlantic City. Their time was best spent sitting side by side on their front porch and preparing Sunday dinners for the family. Bam took great pride in life and shared a special love for all of her seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Philip and Jacqueline Schillaci and Joseph, Jr., and Ann Schillaci, all of Rome; seven grandchildren, Lisa Schillaci and Bob Caputo, of Amsterdam, NY, Phillip and his wife, Gina Schillaci, of Marcy, Brian and his wife, Jennifer Schillaci, of Rome, Tricia and her husband, Brent Warzocha, of Niskayuna, NY, Kimberly Schillaci and Phillip Taurisano, of Utica, NY, Joseph, III, and his wife, Stacie Schillaci, of Charlotte, NC, and Valerie and her husband, Evan DeGennaro, of Vestal, NY; and 10 great-grandchildren, DeShawn, Ryan, Kory, Alexa, Dominique, Gianna, Antoina, Treva, Marina and Krish. Also surviving are sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, a special sister-in-law, Antonette "Nettie" Volpe, Pauline Mazzaferro, David and Angeline Schillaci, Carmella Schillaci and Angie Schillaci, all of Rome, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Schillaci; her parents, Joseph and Angelina Volpe; her brother, Egidio "Jiggs" Volpe; and sisters, Angelina "Phil" Vito and Mary Ringlund.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care for their wonderful assistance, especially Jane Nieman, RN, and Sandy Simmons. The family would also like to thank Jonathan Wright, M.D., of Upstate Medical Center, Robert Feeney, M.D., Linda Clifford, FNP-C, and a special friend, Carol Morrill.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., Rome, and at St. John the Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-8 p.m.
