Margaret C. Scherzi Margaret Colangelo Scherzi, 92, of Rome, passed away Friday, December 31, 2010, peacefully in her sleep. She was born in Rome, NY on April 5, 1918, daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Tedesco Colangelo. Margaret graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1936 with honors. On July 14, 1945, she married James Patrick Scherzi in St. John the Baptist Church. She retired from employment at Griffiss Air Force Base and was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Pat Scherzi, of Napa Valley, CA, James and Holly Scherzi, of Manlius, NY, and Joseph and Frances Scherzi, of Syracuse, NY; three grandchildren, David, Kimberly and James and his wife Dana. Also surviving are a brother, Leo Colangelo, and a sister-in-law, Carrie Scherzi, both of Rome, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James Patrick Scherzi, in 2008, and her son, Thomas, in 2007. Margaret was a devoted and loving wife and mother. When her family was growing, she was often referred to as the best mother on the street. She enjoyed visiting with her children and grandchildren. Her funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. where friends and relatives are invited to attend. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome, NY 13440. Arrangements are by the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St.
