Joseph V. Emeterio Joseph V. Emeterio, 81, of Rome, passed away Monday, February 28, 2011 at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rome, NY on July 28, 1929, son of the late Vincent and Susana Quintanal Emeterio. Joe was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he recieved the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defence Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. On March 5, 1956, he married Lois V. Myers in Miami, FL. Mr. Emeterio retired in 1997 from the State of New York Rome DDSO. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and VFW Rome Post #2246. Joe enjoyed family, friends, cooking, the outdoors, gardening, and sports. He especially liked golf and walking the family dog, Reiki. Surviving besides his wife Lois are a daughter Charlene E. Emeterio, three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Mary) Conover, Mrs. Olindo (Elizabeth) Ferlo and Mrs. Rocco (Ruby) Luiere, all of Rome. Also surviving are nieces and nephews Ramona L. and her husband Craig Smith, Lorraine Brown, Linda Mazure, all of Rome, Maryanne Ludtke and her husband Howard, Mass., Anita Emeterio, Rocco and his wife Janet Luiere, NV., Joseph R. Ferlo, Lindy Ferlo, Frank Jr. and his wife Fran Emeterio, Fred and his wife Tina Conover, all of Rome, Ronald and his wife Kathy Conover, Bolton Landing, NY, Frank and his wife Linda Conover, Rome, Eloy Jr. and his wife Krystyna Emeterio, Amsterdam, NY, and several great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Frank (Hank) Emeterio and Eloy Emeterio. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St. and at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joseph's name to the American Heart Association, Cancer Research Center or Rome Humane Society.
