Leonard N. Yano Leonard N. Yano, 92, of Rome, passed away Monday, April 18, 2011 at Stonehedge Nursing Home. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on March 14, 1919, son of the late John and Gelsomino Scalzo Yano. Leonard attended Rome schools. He served with the U.S. Air Corps during World War II. On January 20, 1946, he married Lucy Merante in Lady of Loretto Church, Cold Spring, N.Y. She passed away December 14, 1991. Mr. Yano retired from Griffiss Air Force Base. Leonard was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Rome Knights of Columbus, Rome Elks Club, VFW Rome Post 2246 and Rome DAV. Surviving are a son, John A. Yano, Rome; a sister, Rosemary Vaughn, Lee Center; a sister-in-law, Rose Yano, Rome; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Marlene Vaughn, Lee Center. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucy, a daughter-in-law, Maria Yano, and four brothers, Frank, Sam, Joseph and Paul Yano. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 120 Lomond Court, Utica, N.Y. 13502-5953.
