Theresa F. Merola Theresa F. Merola, 87, of Rome, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, New Hartford. She was born in Rome, NY, on November 30, 1923, daughter of the late Mauro and Rose Nigro Pomilio. On December 27, 1941, she married Peter A. Merola in St. John the Baptist Church. He passed away October 9, 2008. Mrs. Merola retired from the Rome City School District as a cafeteria manager. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and was an avid golfer. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Pasquale and Geraldine Merola, Walnut Creek, CA; a daughter, Lorraine Munson, Clifton Park, NY; and four grandchildren, Kristen Merola and her husband, Dan Wagner, Julie Merola, Peter Merola and Amy Munson. Also surviving are three sisters, Della Martello, Clinton, NY, Maggie LaButti, Rochester, NY, and Mauro Ostermann, Tampa, FL, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Steven Munson; four brothers, Mauro, Jr., Daniel, Joseph and Anthony "Bozo" Pomilio; and three sisters, Julia Gibson, Jessie Nash and Antoinetta Hammock. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., Rome, tonight from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome, NY 13440.
