Madeline V. Morice Madeline Victoria (Viscosi) Morice, age 83, of Rome, went home to the Lord on June 18, 2011 at Rome Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness, with her loving family by her side. Born December 26, 1927 in Italy, she was the daughter of Agostino A. Viscusi and Domenica Massaro. Madeline came to Rome, NY with her family at the age of 3 and has remained here ever since. She graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1945 and worked as an accountant for several car dealerships in the Rome area from 1947-1970. Madeline was united in marriage to Charles C. Morice on January 12, 1974 at St. John the Baptist Church. Charles passed away July 1, 1993. Madeline, known affectionately by her family as "Grandma," is also predeceased by her brother, Archangelo Viscusi of Whitesboro, and her daughter, Carol Jean (Morice) Krauch. Madeline had a deep devotion to her family and her strong faith in God. Madeline was clothed into the Order of Discalced Carmelites Secular, as Mary Teresa of the Holy Family, at the Community of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Utica, NY, on October 10, 1997. Madeline transferred to the new Community of Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity, established in Rome, NY on June 2, 2004. Madeline was also an active member of St. John the Baptist parish, serving many years as a church school teacher and volunteer. She was also a member of the church's Legion of Mary and Nocturnal Adoration Society. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Frances Ann (Morice) & Jay Mayhew, of Rome; four grandchildren, including, Michael J. Mayhew and Tina M. Mayhew, of Rome; five great grandchildren, including, Michael Thomas Mayhew, of Rome; three sisters-in-law, Anne Viscusi of Whitesboro, Mary (Morice) Gianotti, of Utica, and Deva Morice, of Utica; as well as her nephew, James Viscusi, of Utica; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins within the US, Canada and Italy. The family wishes to sincerely thank the entire staff of Rome Memorial Hospital, Madeline's doctors, Apparao Poonati and Beth Ann Bulawa, and her many close friends for their care, concern, compassion and love given to Grandma and her family. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 East Dominick Street, Rome, NY at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.
