Felix F. Konawicz Jr.
Felix Francis Konawicz, Jr., 90, a long-time resident of Camden, passed away on May 22, 2011 at the Oneida Extended Care Facility. He was born in Florence, New York, the son of the late Felix Konawicz, Sr. and Pauline Patala Konawicz. "Chip" was a member of the Camden Central High School class of 1937, where he played baseball, basketball and wrestled. A tireless worker in his lifetime, he operated a poultry farm, managed the contracting firm Personality Homes, which built hundreds of houses for families in Oneida County, and headed a sales department at Montgomery Wards in Rome. An avid hunter and fisherman, he loved flying and maintained a private pilot's license. A baseball enthusiast, in the early 1960s he managed the Camden Contractors, the local Town Team of that era.
Mr. Konawicz was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, the former Mildred V. Garofalo of Rome. He is survived by a daughter, Pauline Harrington of Aiken, South Carolina; three sons, Franklyn Konawicz of Camden, David and daughter-in-law Aminta Konawicz of Miami, Florida, and George and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Konawicz of Holly Springs, North Carolina; three granddaughters, Mrs. Kelly and Derek Clement of Clifton Park, New York, Mrs. Bonnie and Mike Strail of Oneida, New York, and Miss Jessica Konawicz of New York City; two grandsons, Edward and Cheryl Konawicz of Miami, Florida, and Andrew Konawicz of Holly Springs, North Carolina; two great grandson, Jack and Eric Strail of Oneida; and two great granddaughters, Abby and Kaitlyn Clement of Clifton Park.
A private family service will be held at Saint Mary's Church Cemetery in Florence at 11:30 a.m. on June 25, 2011.
Arrangements are by the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., Rome.
