Arthur Edward Smaldon Arthur Edward Smaldon, 84, of Rome, joined his wife in heaven on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Art was born in Rome on March 10, 1927, the son of the late Arthur and Dora Compo Smaldon. On September 1, 1955, he married Ann Rossi. The two shared a loving union until Ann's passing on August 1, 2009. Art retired from the Plumbers Local 79 of Utica and remained self-employed and actively working up to the onset of his recent illness. Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Deborah Smaldon, Rome, Ralph and Colleen Smaldon, Rome, Joseph and Michelle Smaldon, Enon, Ohio, and Arthur Smaldon, Dayton, Ohio; his daughter, Sheri Hartness, Whitesboro; 10 grandchildren, Jenna, Jonathan, Jared, Matthew, Melissa, Elaina, Tony, Katie and Michael Smaldon and Kyle Hartness; and three great grandchildren, with a fourth expected in September. Also surviving are his sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice and Tim Newton, Rome, Ruth and Joseph Fraccola, California; sisters-in-law, Betty Goodrich, Rome, and Camille Smaldon, California, and a brother-in-law, Ralph Rossi, Rome; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Art was predeceased by his wife, his parents, his in-laws, Ralph and Mary Carro Rossi, Edward Smaldon, John Smaldon, Fred and Rosemary Francescone, Priscilla Rossi and Charles Goodrich. Art's life was all about his family and his friends. He had a "tough exterior" that shielded a heart of gold. Art was blessed with many good friends. To each of you, his family would like to thank you for touching his life. In keeping with Art's wishes, services will be private. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
