Alfred J. Scerra Alfred J. Scerra, 93, of Rome, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on March 3, 1918, son of the late Al and Rafael Scerra. Al attended Rome Schools. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. On June 1, 1946, he married Frances R. Corigliano in St. John the Baptist Church. She passed away October 8, 2000. Mr. Scerra retired from Pettibone Corp. and was also co-owner of the former Greenbrier Restaurant. Al was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and Toccolana Club. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Albert and Doreen Scerra, Ronald and Deborah Scerra, Richard and Joyce Scerra, all of Rome; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Mike, Matt, Niko and Richard Scerra; two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Grace Scerra. Also surviving are sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Nazare and Anne Corigliano, Thomas and Carmella Corigliano, Jerry and Katherine Corigliano, Peter and Isabelle Corigliano, Mary Farraggio, Rose Baptiste, Angie and David Schillaci, all of Rome; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters and brothers-in-law, Yolanda and Benson Brandenberg, Theresa "Liz" and Sam Buono, Catherine "Kate" and Frank Angotti, Martha and Stanley Belenske; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Rosario Scerra, Dominick and Frances Scerra, Joseph and Madeline Scerra; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dominick and Antoinette Ross, Carl and Nora Pugliese, James Farraggio and William Baptiste. The family would like to express a special thank you to Bethany Gardens and Rome Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 8:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rome Humane Society, P.O. Box 4572, Rome, N.Y. 13442 or the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, N.Y. 10305.
