Joseph T. Ferlo Jr.
Joseph T. Ferlo Jr., 89, of Rome passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Bethany Gardens. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on May 9, 1922 son of the late Joseph T. and Jennie Nucci Ferlo. Joe graduated from Rome Free Academy, class of 1940. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. On May 27, 1948, he married Assunda C. Malorzo in St. John the Baptist Church. Mr. Ferlo retired as co-owner of Ferlo's Baking Co. and DanDee Donuts of America. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Joe was life member of the HP Smith Post #24 American Legion, VFW Rome Post #2246, Toccolana Club, and a past member of Rome Elks Club, and was very active in local Boy Scouts of America.
Surviving besides his wife Assunda, are three sons and two daughters- in-law, Carmen and Patricia Ferlo, David J. Ferlo, Joseph A. III and Carolyn Trela Ferlo; a daughter and son-in-law Susan and Larry Casalenuovo, all of Rome; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Marc, and Matthew Ferlo, Amelia Casalenuovo, Nicholas Ferlo; and five great- grandchildren. Also surviving, three brothers and two sisters-in- law, Guido Ferlo, Oklahoma; Guy and Eleanor Ferlo, Albert and Natalie Ferlo, all of Rome; a sister, Eleanor Spinelli, Oneida; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Anthony, Olindo (Lindy) and Fiore Ferlo.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 9:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., at 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 4-7 p.m.
