Rosemary I. Giamporcaro
Rosemary Imelda Giamporcaro, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011 at Rome Memorial Hospital. Rosemary was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Mary and George Pope. She was educated by the Sisters of "St. John's By The Sea," a Staten Island orphanage where she spent her formative years. In 1943, she met PFC. Cataldo J. Giamporcaro in Brooklyn. On October 5, 1946, Rosemary and Cataldo (Merf) were joined in Holy Matrimony at St. John the Baptist Church in Rome, NY. The couple lovingly shared thirty-three years together until his untimely death in 1979. Rosemary adored her family and loved being a mother. She was devoted to her husband, her children and to Our Lord Jesus Christ. To further God's work here on earth, she worked tirelessly through her church, eventually serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Diocesan Pastoral Council Representative, and as a Parish Council Representative. She was a member of the Marian Guild and the Eucharistic Adoration Society. For many years, Rosemary traveled the area to bring the Holy Eucharist to the chronically ill and home-bound. She is survived by two sons and three daughters, Angela Wilson and her husband George Wilson, New Hartford, NY; Guy Giamporcaro and his wife Christine, of Rome; Jane Taylor of Rome; Diane Hartman of Newport News, VA; and Raymond Giamporcaro and his wife, Linda of Titusville, FL. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lucy Giamporcaro McCaslin of Denver, Colorado; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; along with two brothers, Anthony Pope of Ridgefield, NJ; James Pope of Fredericksburg, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosemary was predeceased by her infant sister, Rose Pope (1915), her brother, George Pope (1919), and brothers Michael, Thomas and Carl Pope. We wish to thank Barbara Connor, M.D, the Rome Memorial Hospital's Residential Health Care Facility, its superb staff and administrator, Tara Corcoran, along with the Terrace at Woodland, its administrator, Wade Canipe and his staff, for their compassionate attention to our mother's needs during her illness. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Church on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Internment in St. John's Cemetery, Rome.
