Francis J. Colangelo Francis J. Colangelo, 87, of Rome, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011 in the loving presence of his family at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rome NY, on April 4, 1924 son of the late Angelo and Jenny Colangelo. Francis was educated in Rome Schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy. He proudly served with the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II. On September 18, 1948 he married Elena "Lena" Tamburino in St. John the Baptist Church. Mr. Colangelo retired from Griffiss Airforce Base. Francis was an avid golfer and loved playing at Rome Country Club. He was a faithful parishioner at St. John the Baptist Church and was a member of the Rome DAV. Surviving besides his wife of 63 years Lena, are two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Joelle Colangelo, Mark and Gina Colangelo, all of Rome; four grandchildren Ashlee Thompson and her husband Chad, Kelly Colangelo, Jaqlyn Colangelo, and Joseph Colangelo; two great- grandchildren, Ashton and Alexa Thompson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Bernie and Joseph "Red" Colangelo; and a sister, Delores Tuthill. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. Mathis and staff. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home Inc., 218 W. Court St., on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome NY 13440.
