Dominick T. Merola , 96, of Rome, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Katherine Lutheran Home, Clinton. He was born in Rome, NY, on May 3, 1912, son of the late Pasquale and Domenica Tuosto Merola. Dominick attended Rome schools. On September 16, 1939 he married Catherine M. Cremeno in St. John The Baptist Church. Mr. Merola was former owner of Ajax Welding. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Enjoying the outdoors, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Surviving besides his wife Catherine are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Ronald Kapfer, Rome; Elaine and James Genovese, Marcy; seven grandchildren, Karen and her husband John Miller, Rome; Kelly Ann Egresits, Marcy; Richard DeSalvo, Rome; Leigh Ann and her husband Keith Levatino, Whitesboro; Mark DeSalvo, Marcy; James Genovese, Rome, and Michael Genovese, Hoboken, NJ; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister Adeline Matteo, Rome, and several nieces and nephews including three special nieces, Marion and her husband John Falitico, and Monica Falitico, all of Rome, and Virginia Merola, Utica. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary St. Thomas and Rose Lombino,and three brothers, Joseph Merola, Alexander Merola and Pasquale Merola. Funeral services will be held on Monday at St. John the Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m. where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St. on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. The family would like to express a special thank you to the Gordon Unit at Katherine Luther Home for their care and compassion shown to Dominick.
