Marie R. Angelicchio
Marie R. Angelicchio, 90, of Rome, passed away in Rome Memorial Hospital on Thursday, December 13, 2012, The Feast of St. Lucy, after a short illness with her family at her side. Marie was born in Rome, NY, on February 24, 1922, the daughter of the late Ned and Lucy DeCarlo Giansanti. Marie graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1940. On April 17, 1941 she married Angelo "Percy" Angelicchio in St. John the Baptist Church, a wonderful union full of love and laughter that lasted 61 years. Percy died on July 21, 2002. Marie was employed for many years as a receptionist for Dr. Ralph Tardugno and Dr. John Destito. Marie was a life member of St. John the Baptist Church. For many years under the leadership of the late Fr. Nick Maio, Marie and Percy helped with the pre-cana program of the parish. She was a member and president of the former Mother of Christ Sodality, and a member of the Congregation to Many and the first president of the Associates of the Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate. Marie loved her family and friends and enjoyed cooking and entertaining at what she called "The Hotel on the Hill 204." Her smile, laughter and storytelling will be remembered by all and dearly missed.
Marie is survived by three sons, Michael Angelicchio of Rome, David Angelicchio and Maureen Mecca of Rome, Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio, pastor of St. John the Baptist and Transfiguration Parishes in Rome; a daughter, Mary M. Graulich of Rome; eight grandchildren, Debra, Kari, Marie, David, Larisa, Paul, Michael, and Jessica; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Mary Vanderpool, of Rome, and Anne Beach of Rome. She was predeceased by her husband Percy; a brother, Anthony Giansanti; and a sister, Camille "Dolly" Mercurio.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 17, at 11:45 from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., Rome, NY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 in St. John the Baptist Church celebrated by her son. The Rite of Committal and Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, December 16, from 3-6 p.m.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Potluri and the Rome Memorial Hospital staff on Two East and Two North as well as the nursing home staff on Three East for their excellent care and compassion, may God bless all of you.
